the prayer flags

lung-ta

As prayer flags in Tibet, Nepal, and China flutter in the breezes on mountain passes, or at the ancient pilgrimage sites, the prayers printed on them are released to the skies. The five colors, red, blue, green, gold and white, which start out very bright, soon fade in the sunlight to pastels and eventually to grey. This fading represents the life cycles of all living beings.
